The world of mobile telephony gets another new budget handset with the Nokia 63003i Classic the Finish mobile phone giant Nokia recently announced. And like any other budget feature phones, there's really nothing remarkable about it. It's actually a rehashed 6303 Classic with just an "i" appended to the name which is a long standing Nokia tradition when updating decently successful handsets with newer features within a year or two. This one is just 7 months apart from the first incarnation.
Unfortunately, the features that got updated are hardly anything to celebrate about, like a 55 MB internal memory boost from a nearly useless 17 MB. That's something Nokia should have done in the first place for a 2005 feature phone. Oh, sorry, the 6303 Classic was a 2009 model. But to make matters worst, it downgrades a decent VGA video recording at 15fps to a QVGA at 8fps. We hope the item in the spec sheet was just a typo error. Otherwise, we really so reason for this handset to be claimed as updated 6303 handset at all.

Decent Feature Set
Having said that, there's no doubt Nokia makes capable budget feature phones and this is no exception. But with a market saturated with better feature phone, one has to wander why anyone would want this one.
It's a typical tri-band GSM with class 32 data connectivity in GPRS/EDGE speeds. It also has Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB 2.0 for local data synching for wireless and wired modes, respectively. You get the conventional candybar form factor on a body measuring 108.8 x 46.2 x 11.7mm and weighs 96 g - typical of most budget candybars in the market.
Its 2.2-inch TFT LCD display with QVGA resolution and 16 million colors is pretty much par for the course among handsets in this class. Its imaging takes center stage with a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash. But video recording as stated above, is a disappointment as it only allows QVGA resolution at 8fps and a smaller QCIF resolution at a better 15fps frame rate.
Its modest internal memory of 55 MB can be expanded with its microSD support for up to 8 GB. You get a generous 8 hours of talk time, 30 hours of music playback time and 515 h of standby time from its a 1050 mAh Lithium-ion battery
It's preloaded with Nokia Maps 2.0 together with apps for instant messaging, email clients as well as a WAP 2.0 HTML browser with Flash Lite 3.0 support. But without Wi-Fi or 3G, you may want to forgo any internet surfing activity with this phone.
Availability
Nokia plans to have this available within the first quarter of the year. But announced only this month, a late Q1 release is more likely. The Nokia 6303i Classic is expected to cost at a SIM-free price of EUR105 before taxes and subsidies and will come in a choice of body colors - chestnut, matt black, steel, pink, khaki on gold and white on silver. Earlier 6303 Classic users won't be thrilled moving up or down to this model. Its upgraded features are offset by its downgraded features. For mobile phone newbies coming out of puberty, this is something to consider though.
